Born on January 1, 1940 in Robbinsville, NC, Red moved to East Tennessee as a young man. He was a veteran and cook in the United States Army. He was a selfless, humble, happy, carefree, very work-oriented man who loved his family. He was a longtime owner and operator of Dubb's Restaurant since 1970 where he enjoyed working alongside his wife and best friend, Pat. Red always felt that when a person was eating they were happy, and he took pride in being a part of someone's happiness. He loved the competition and dedication of motocross racing. The weekends he spent with his family at the races were some of his proudest moments.
